“We’ve designed the bathroom to be agnostic to the environment in which it goes. There are certainly other operational considerations the further out you go, but there’s really no fundamental limitation as to where we put a throne.”
The days of endless maintenance and poorly maintained facilities might just be behind us. While bathrooms in parks are rarely the focus of, innovation, Jessica Heinzelmann and Fletcher Wilson from Throne Labs knew there was a need to take on this unexplored territory. Together, they are rethinking park restrooms, transforming them from mundane necessities into seamless, data-driven experiences for park visitors.
Jessica grew up with a love for the outdoors. With that came many encounters with traditional park restrooms, which left her longing for something better. Fletcher’a outdoor adventures were similar, with them sometimes being complicated by inadequate restrooms. It’s these personal experiences that fueled their interest for something beyond the typical options we see in parks.
They worked together to create another option. Throne is a nice indoor bathroom that can be placed anywhere quickly and with flexibly to move. It’s not connected to infrastructure. It doesn’t need to connect into waste and water systems. It’s solar powered for all the power needed to run onboard, and it uses modern technology and sensors to monitor the health of the throne. That helps the Throne Labs team make sure the bathroom is functioning properly wherever it is. They also use real time feedback from the users to monitor when it needs to be cleaned or if there are other issues. The days of endless maintenance and poorly maintained facilities might just be behind us.
Throne Labs bathrooms are not only smart and self-sustaining but ADA-compliant as well. They make parks more accessible to everyone. Features like touchless entry and a welcoming atmosphere with music and custom graphics show that Throne is creating a bridge between the comforts of city living and the allure of outdoor recreation.
There are so many possibilities for enhancing the customer experience in our parks. Who knew that transforming bathrooms could also transform the way people experience the outdoors? It takes people like Jessica and Fletcher to rethink the essentials so public spaces are welcoming to all.
