Dan Bortner, the recently promoted Director of Indiana Department of Natural Resources, joins me for back to back episodes.

Today, we are discussing the historic passing of the Great America Outdoors Act. This is probably the greatest conservation act in a generation, comparable with the legislation previously passed by Teddy Roosevelt.

After many years and being authorized in 2019, thanks to the Great America Outdoors Act, key funds and initiatives are now fully funded and to some extent, permanently reauthorized.

The Great America Outdoors Act is made up of two segments – National Park and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund and the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Both of these funds will go a long way in updates and infrastructure maintenance.

While this Act takes us a long way toward our goal, our job is not done yet. We still have a job to do, we can take pride knowing that this is a large step towards long term conservation.
